Job summary

Dynamism is looking for an exceptional early-career engineer to join in San Francisco, in person, and to develop the user-facing product from discovery to deployment.

You will work directly with the founder CEO and engineering team across React, TypeScript, Mapbox, and Express, taking problems from discovery through to production. Recent graduates with demonstrable projects and a clear personal contribution are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship customer-facing features across React, TypeScript, Mapbox, Express, the data layer, and supporting infrastructure.

• Collaborate with ML and data teams to make their outputs useful to customers.
• Engage with users to investigate problems and test ideas through prototypes and working software.
• Own your production work and learn from failures.

Dynamism is the executive search partner for a startup building an operating system for cities’ built environments.

Public works teams decide which roads to repair using evidence scattered across imagery, GIS records, engineering reports, spreadsheets, and local knowledge. The company brings that information together so governments can understand their assets, assess conditions, plan investment, and manage maintenance.

Roads are the starting point. The longer-term ambition covers bridges, drainage, utilities, water systems, and other public infrastructure. The company has customers, revenue, and funding, while remaining early enough for your work to shape the product.

The role

You’ll work directly with the founder CEO and engineering team to build the user-facing product. You’ll take customer problems from discovery and interaction design through frontend, backend, data, and deployment.

We’re looking for an exceptional early-career engineer who has already built in a startup environment. You may be a recent graduate, but you can point to software people actually used and explain the decisions you personally made.

What you’ll do

• Build and ship customer-facing features across React, TypeScript, Mapbox, Express, the data layer, and supporting infrastructure.
• Turn complex infrastructure information into clear interfaces and useful workflows.
• Work with engineers responsible for machine learning and data creation to make their outputs useful to customers.
• Speak with users, investigate problems, and test ideas through conversations, prototypes, and working software.
• Use AI coding tools extensively while understanding, reviewing, testing, and debugging the result.
• Take responsibility for your work in production and learn from failures.
• Notice gaps and contribute beyond a narrowly defined engineering remit.

What we’re looking for

• Meaningful startup experience through an internship, an early engineering role, or your own venture.
• Evidence of personally building and shipping software, with a clear explanation of your contribution.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to reason about code without relying entirely on AI.
• Product curiosity and an eye for making complex workflows simple.
• Fast learning, independent initiative, and sound judgement about when to ask for help.
• Comfort working with incomplete information and taking feedback directly.
• Interest in infrastructure and other consequential physical-world problems.
• Ability to work in person in San Francisco or a credible relocation plan.

Particularly relevant experience

Projects or startup work involving computer vision, mapping, drones, dashcams, robotics, sensor data, or infrastructure inspection would stand out. We’re interested in what you built, how you tested it, and what happened when people used it.
