Job description

About Perry Weather

Perry Weather is the weather safety standard for organizations that operate outdoors. We combine on-site weather hardware with a software platform that automates alerts, siren activations, and safety decisions for more than 3,000 organizations — from the PGA of America, the NFL, and MLB to Turner Construction, thousands of school districts, cities, and golf courses. We've grown 80%+ annually for five consecutive years, and are continuing to grow.

We're headquartered in Dallas at The Centrum, in the Oak Lawn neighborhood, where our teams work together every day to help organizations make faster and safer decisions when weather puts people, assets, and operations at risk.

About the Role

As a senior software engineer, you will join our small but growing team of software engineers. You'll work across the board, from our React web dashboard and React Native mobile app to the .NET services and real-time weather processing and alerting infrastructure behind them. You'll learn how our software interacts with our proprietary hardware, and you'll drive improvements to reliability and efficiency with every deployment. We're looking for someone who is hungry, scrappy, and humble and who is energized by the fact that our weather safety solution protects thousands of lives every day across North America.

This is a full-stack role in the widest sense. We want an engineer who can own a feature from the interface a customer touches down to the device in the field, and who is comfortable moving into an unfamiliar part of the system, building an accurate picture of how it works, and changing it safely. Nobody here is an expert in all of it.

We also expect you to build with AI coding agents as part of your daily work.

We aren't constrained by a certain set of technologies, languages, or frameworks. We pick the right technologies for each job, and as a software engineer on our team, you will have tremendous influence in determining those technologies and how we build our systems as we continue to scale. That said, we care as much about your hunger and ability to learn quickly as about what you already know.

Responsibilities
  • Work across our React web dashboard, React Native mobile app, and the .NET services behind them

  • Work with weather APIs and real-time weather and lightning data (we process hundreds of thousands of lightning strikes every day across North America)

  • Build and maintain back-end services in .NET for Linux environments

  • Work with Docker containers in a Kubernetes environment on Azure

  • Work in a primarily Unix (macOS) environment targeting Linux

  • Learn how our software interacts with our proprietary hardware, including the firmware running on our connected devices

  • Coordinate deployments for large projects that touch many different systems

  • Improve and innovate on existing infrastructure

  • Use AI coding agents daily, and help set how the team works with them

Requirements
  • 7+ years shipping production software, with ownership on both sides of the same product: the interface customers touch and the data model underneath it

  • A substantial React and TypeScript application you were responsible for: state management that held up as the app grew, a performance problem you diagnosed and fixed, and a component interface other engineers built against

  • Backend depth in a statically typed language, including data modeling, transaction boundaries, and API design that survives a growing set of clients. We use C# and .NET; comparable depth in Java, Go, or Kotlin transfers well

  • A service you've operated in production. You deployed it, monitored it, debugged it under load, and redesigned part of it after a failure

  • Real-time or event-driven systems experience, including backpressure, duplicate and out-of-order delivery, and upstream feeds that go quiet or start returning bad values

  • Tests you would defend in review. You can explain why a particular test exists, which ones you removed, and how you'd verify a change in a codebase whose tests you don't trust yet

  • Fluency with AI-native engineering tools and agentic workflows (e.g., terminal-native coding agents, LLM-assisted code refactoring and generation) to multiply technical output and speed up development cycles

  • The ability to review generated code for correctness. Agent output is usually idiomatic and well-formed even when the logic is wrong, so we need someone who checks it against the requirement. You should be able to explain any line you ship

A strong plus is experience with React Native, embedded or IoT work in C/C++ or on field-deployed hardware; geospatial and mapping work; weather or meteorological data; load and performance testing; and multi-tenant auth design.

Nice to Have
  • You have solid experience across a wide breadth of technologies, and you want to work across all of them rather than settle into one specialty

  • You've been a part of a small, quickly growing software company

  • You have a proven record of driving reliability and redundancy when working with large data sets and real-time notifications

  • You don't need much direction to complete high-quality projects from start to finish

  • You hold a high bar for reliability. Our customers get alerts during severe weather, and a dropped notification can put someone at risk

Benefits
  • You'll want to come into the office. Our Oak Lawn office isn't just a place to sit — it's where ideas move fast and culture stays strong. The whole team is here Monday through Friday, which means real collaboration, no chasing people down over Slack, and a genuinely fun place to spend your work days.

  • Your wellbeing is covered. Competitive health insurance, 401(k) with employer matching, and a full suite of voluntary benefits, because you shouldn't have to think twice about the basics.

  • Good people, good times. Monthly All-Hands, Office Olympics, happy hours, and more. We take the work seriously and the culture seriously too.

  • You're getting in early, and that matters. We're growing fast, but the biggest opportunities are still ahead. The people joining now will help shape what Perry Weather becomes.
