Job summary

Wabtec Corporation in Maryland is seeking a senior software engineer to develop software based on requirements and design, collaborate with the software team to extend existing components to meet client requirements, support design activities and reviews, and analyze code and system functionality.

The role requires 7+ years of hands-on software development, proficiency in Java, C/C++, C#, Python, RESTful APIs, and strong communication in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Overview

As part of the Wabtec Digital Intelligence organization, the Surface Transportation software group is a best-in-class team with successful product lines for the rail industry. Our products support rail customer operations for dispatch systems, positive train control, SCADA, and customer information management and include both back office and front facing components. Our successful products are deployed in over 30 customer operational systems and we continue to develop the next generation of our products for future growth in areas such as high speed rail, data analytics, and machine learning.

Responsibilities

• Develop software based on requirements and design
• Collaborate with the software team to extend existing components to implement client requirements
• Support design activities and reviews
• Analyze code and system functionality
• Follow engineering guidelines and processes
• Continuously work to improve software quality

Qualifications

Must have:

• B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, Software or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated hands-on experience in building scalable software, including design, implementation, debugging, and support
• Knowledge of design patterns and Restful API patterns
• Experience with applying data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design, to solve challenging problems using at least two of these languages: Java, C/C++, C#, Python
• Experience with agile software development principles and practices, particularly Scrum
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

• Passenger and freight rail domain experience
• Understanding of rail domain protocols such as IETMS
• Node.js and JavaScript experience
• Python experience
• Architecture experience
• AI/ML
