Job summary

PowerSchool is seeking an experienced software engineer to advance our AWS serverless platform. You will build backend services with Python and TypeScript, optimize SQL workloads, and implement AI-driven features.

The role entails collaborating on architecture and roadmap, ensuring code quality, and driving large-scale ML infrastructure improvements within a K-12 education cloud environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS serverless technologies.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript for backend development.
• Strong SQL foundation; comfort with complex transformations.
• Demonstrated AI engineering experience, such as LLM integration or AI-driven workflows.
• Experience building distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
• Snowflake or modern cloud data warehouse experience.
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT frameworks.
• Experience with AI automation tools and metadata extraction pipelines.
• Strong communication and collaborative engineering habits.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AWS serverless components using Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway and related services.

• Contribute to code quality, testing, performance tuning, logging, monitoring, and observability.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical input to improve the platform.
• Drive technical project strategy and oversee GenAI solutions and ML infrastructure optimization.
• Coordinate multi-step, tool-augmented workflows using modern orchestration frameworks.

• Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build AWS serverless components using Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway

• Familiarity with ETL/ELT frameworks.
• Experience with AI automation tools, code-gen frameworks, or metadata extraction
  pipelines.
• Strong communication and collaborative engineering habits.
• Some basic understanding and experience of Data Science Algorithms

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $79,700 - $136,800 USD. This compensation range is specific to the United States and it incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
