Lumen is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain software in an Agile Scrum environment. You will work on high‑impact, scalable systems that process large data volumes and meet strict SLAs, collaborating with product teams to deliver robust solutions.

Required experience includes GoLang and Java, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and modern frameworks like Spring, Hibernate, and Kafka. Remote work from the US is supported for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 6+ years of experience; 4+ years with a master's.
• Experience with GoLang and Java.
• Experience with Agile practices, including planning, grooming, sprint management, daily standups, and retrospectives.
• Experience with Oracle RDBMS and PL/SQL.
• Unix/Linux shell scripting experience.
• REST API Services experience.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA, Kafka ecosystems, and testing (JUnit/TestNG).
• Cloud platform proficiency: AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with AKS, Logic Apps, Service Bus.
• Experience using AI developer tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
• Experience building scalable high-performance systems for high data volume processing.
• Telecom industry experience a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

The Role

Working within an agile team, the Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software, as well as significant enhancements to existing software of moderate complexity. The role also involves developing solutions across multiple disciplines and producing and explaining those solutions through documented system requirements.

Location

This is a work from home position within the US.

The Main Responsibilities

• Partners in an Agile Scrum team environment to be able to design, develop, code, test, debug and support in production new software or significant enhancements to existing software

• Works closely with business partners and technical staff to create technical solutions that meet business and technical requirements

• Collaborates with product developers in an agile team to define and implement effective and efficient automated tests

• Documents own work to promote transparency and reuse

• Builds production-quality enterprise-grade systems that achieve target SLAs for scalability, reliability, and performance on an agreed upon schedule

• Actively participates in code-review process

• Prioritizes and handles multiple concurrent projects and efforts

• Demonstrates accountability for successful completion of assignments and tasks

What We Look For in a Candidate

• 6+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience (Computer Science or similar is preferred). 4 + years of experience with a master’s degree.

• Working knowledge of software development methodologies, standards, and coding best practices

• Experience in Agile practices, including planning and grooming, sprint management, daily standup, and retrospective participation

• Experience with GoLang and Java

• Experience with Temporal Workflow

• Experience with Oracle RDBMS, writing PL/SQL

• Experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting

• REST API Services is a plus

• Fluent with Frameworks and Libraries such as Spring Boot (Advanced), Spring Framework (Core, Data, Security, MVC), Hibernate/JPA,Apache Kafka /Confluent Kafka, RESTful Web Services and JUnit/TestNG for testing

• Efficient with Cloud Platforms being Proficient in one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure)

• Experience with cloud services like AKS, Logic Apps, Service Bus.

• Experience using AI Developer tools (Cursor, Github Copilot, Claude Code) to create high quality code in a fast moving environment

• Experience in developing scalable high-performance systems to support high data volume processing

• Highly motivated, organized, reliable and detail oriented

• Quick learner and actively seeks out new technology

• Experience in the telecommunications industry a plus

• Strong problem-solving, time management, written and verbal communication skills

Compensation

• This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location.
