Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Spring Framework or similar Java development frameworks.
• 3+ years of experience with Elasticsearch and/or MongoDB.
• Strong RDBMS proficiency including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
• Experience in a B2B SaaS environment supporting enterprise customers.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Overview

Salary (Base) Range: $120,000 - $150,000

Hybrid 3-4 days/week in Austin office

Our client is an established software company based in Austin, Texas, that provides MLS and real estate technology solutions used by Multiple Listing Services, associations, brokers, and real estate professionals across North America.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a leading technical role in shaping and delivering the client’s best-in-class technology solutions. In this role, you will drive key phases of the development and implementation of the client’s mission-critical software — including research, design, development, testing, optimization, and documentation — while guiding architectural decisions and mentoring other engineers. You will work closely with cross-functional members of the organization, including Product and Business Analysis teams, to shape solutions that improve operational performance and the design of the overall system.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture and implementation of new features and major enhancements to our software
• Own technical decisions for key subsystems, including build-vs-buy and refactor-vs-rewrite tradeoffs
• Drive modernization of legacy modules — defining approach and standards, not just executing against them
• Design, develop, test, and debug software at a high level of independence
• Troubleshoot complex, production-level issues, including cross-system and integration bugs
• Partner directly with Product and Business Analyst stakeholders to shape requirements and surface technical tradeoffs early in the process
• Work across departments to ensure long-term development efforts correctly support the business's goals and needs
• Lead and participate in design and code reviews, with ownership of code quality standards
• Mentor mid-level and junior developers, supporting their technical growth
• Build reusable components and systems
• Create and maintain technical documentation
• Guide and help define overall architectural patterns and decisions

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience, with strong command of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns
• 5+ years of experience with Spring Framework or similar Java development frameworks, including service-layer architecture design
• 3+ years of experience with Elasticsearch and/or MongoDB, including schema and index design
• Strong RDBMS proficiency — schema design, complex query optimization, and application integration (Oracle experience preferred)
• Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
• Experience operating in a B2B SaaS environment supporting enterprise customers
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Self-reliant and motivated self-starter
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Project and task-oriented with a focus on details
• Clear, professional communication skills, with the ability to influence technical discussions and decisions
• Solid team player with a track record of collaborative leadership

Preferred

• Experience with multiple approaches to Agile SDLC processes
• Experience designing and building API-based systems
• Experience with data feed/ingestion (ETL) architectures (e.g., RETS or similar protocols)
• Experience supporting a small, high-context engineering team, or working in environments with significant institutional/tribal knowledge
• Experience in the world of Real Estate data
• Familiarity with navigating Linux systems
• Spec-Driven Development
