Job summary

InstantServe LLC in Austin, TX seeks a senior data engineer/analyst to support modernization of TBIRDS by integrating eICRs, automating workflows, and building dashboards. Role Overview

Support modernization of the Texas Birth Defects Registry (TBIRDS) through data integration, automation, dashboards, and electronic case reporting. Assess business requirements and develop solutions to ingest electronic initial case reports (eICRs), populate registry fields, and reduce manual review.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess integration needs and document business and technical requirements.
• Develop and maintain programs using SAS, Python, R, or similar tools.
• Build dashboards and automate data ingestion, validation, and clinical-review workflows.
• Test data accuracy, completeness, matching, and integration reliability.
• Document code, workflows, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with program, epidemiology, and technical teams.

Required Experience — 8+ Years

• Developing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting SAS, Python, R, or similar scripts.
• System integration, dashboard development, and workflow automation.
• Working with complex health, public health, or administrative data, including databases and querying.
• Translating business needs into technical requirements and solutions.
• Testing and validating automated data integrations.
• Documenting code, specifications, and procedures.
• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience — 2+ Years

• eCR/eICR, EHR, or Health Information Exchange.
• HL7, XML, FHIR, SNOMED CT, or other clinical terminology standards.
• SQL, relational databases, public health registries, data matching, and automated ETL pipelines.
