Title and Summary Senior Software Engineer Overview

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Partnerships and Loyalty team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to apply full‑stack expertise in designing, building, deploying, and scaling real‑time, interactive applications used by thousands of clients worldwide. The role involves a broad range of responsibilities, including front‑end web development, server‑side logic, and database management. The ideal candidate will be hands‑on, with a strong focus on UI development, API integration, and building cloud‑native solutions that operate at a global scale and handle high‑volume workloads. In this role, you will work within an agile development methodology, collaborating with other technical delivery teams while mentoring junior engineers to deliver robust, high‑quality solutions for new features and services. All team members contribute to the design, development, and testing of features.

This is a hybrid position based in Atlanta, GA, with optional O’Fallon, MO, requiring three days per week onsite.

Role
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and enhance full‑stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, React, Angular, PostgreSQL, SQL, NoSQL, and Snowflake.
  • Develop scalable microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems that support real‑time analytics, reporting, and data‑driven applications.
  • Build intuitive, responsive, and high‑performing user interfaces that transform complex data into meaningful insights and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Translate business and product requirements into secure, scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
  • Design, develop, and optimize database structures, queries, and data models for large‑scale, data‑intensive applications.
  • Apply strong software engineering principles, including object‑oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Engineers and other stakeholders across global teams to deliver customer‑focused solutions.
  • Continuously improve application performance, reliability, security, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to Agile planning, estimation, prioritization, and delivery while taking ownership of technical outcomes.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools, including tools such as GitHub Copilot, to accelerate coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, code reviews, and other software development activities, with appropriate engineering judgment and human oversight.
  • Mentor team members, share technical knowledge, and help foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Extensive experience developing enterprise‑scale full‑stack applications, with strong expertise across backend services, frontend development, and database technologies.
  • Extensive experience designing and developing Java applications, Spring Boot services, RESTful APIs, and microservices in enterprise environments.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with React, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, and responsive web application development.
  • Proven experience designing and developing modern, responsive, and intuitive user interfaces that deliver engaging and effective user experiences.
  • Strong database design, data modeling, SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, query optimization, and performance tuning skills.
  • Strong understanding of microservice architecture, distributed systems, API design, and cloud‑native development practices, Azure experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of object‑oriented design principles, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
  • Experience designing and developing event‑driven applications, scalable distributed systems, and data‑intensive applications.
  • Experience using AI‑assisted software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, to improve productivity and software quality across coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, Git‑based development, code reviews, observability, and operational readiness.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an Agile engineering environment, contributing to collaborative technical decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make thoughtful technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and influence decisions across technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation and Benefits

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
