Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) based in the United States. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to strengthen software quality and reliability across a complex healthcare technology platform. In this role, you will combine software engineering expertise with hands-on testing to design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks. You will work across native mobile applications, web platforms, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure to ensure reliable performance and seamless user experiences. Beyond executing tests, you will help shape testing strategies, improve CI/CD processes, and solve complex technical challenges. You will also mentor fellow engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing practices and tools, including AI-assisted solutions. This fully remote opportunity offers the chance to build dependable software that supports healthcare professionals coordinating time-critical patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and comprehensive test suites across mobile, web, API, and backend environments.
  • Improve automated test coverage, execution performance, reliability, and maintainability while reducing flaky tests.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot test environments, automation tools, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to identify defects earlier and support reliable software releases.
  • Develop testing strategies, test plans, and reusable test cases based on requirements, technical complexity, customer workflows, and potential risks.
  • Perform manual, exploratory, regression, and automated testing across native iOS and Android applications, web platforms, internal and public APIs, database migrations, and AWS-based services.
  • Investigate complex system interactions, edge cases, and unexpected behaviors to identify defects and potential risks.
  • Determine when automation is most effective and when hands-on testing is necessary to ensure comprehensive quality coverage.
  • Troubleshoot complex defects and test failures, identify root causes, document reproducible findings, collaborate on solutions, and validate fixes.
  • Mentor other Test Engineering team members by sharing technical expertise and strengthening their automation and testing capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of testing standards, tools, and engineering practices.
  • Explore and apply AI-assisted development and testing technologies to improve quality, efficiency, and test coverage.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, DevOps professionals, and other testing specialists.
  • Maintain a strong customer-focused approach, ensuring that technical quality supports the real-world needs of healthcare professionals.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in software testing and quality assurance, including test planning, manual and exploratory testing, regression testing, and defect reporting.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable automation frameworks and substantial test suites over time.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing across mobile, web, and API environments.
  • Previous experience mentoring engineers or testers, sharing technical knowledge, and contributing to testing and automation strategies.
  • Hands-on programming or scripting experience with languages such as Swift, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, TypeScript, Bash, Python, or comparable technologies.
  • Practical experience testing mobile and web applications, internal and public APIs, database migrations, and complex system integrations.
  • Familiarity with mobile testing tools and frameworks, including Xcode/XCTest for iOS, Android Studio/Espresso/Jetpack Compose for Android, and Playwright for web testing.
  • Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, CI/CD workflows, Linux environments, and automated test troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, CloudWatch, ECS, ECR, and CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with supporting technologies and tools such as Docker and Fastlane.
  • Experience using test management and issue-tracking platforms such as Jira, Qase, or similar solutions.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and assess testing approaches.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, DevOps, and testing teams.
  • Hands-on experience exploring AI-assisted development and testing tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or ChatGPT.
  • Familiarity with using large language models (LLMs) to generate test cases, create test data, and support troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of testing nondeterministic AI outputs is an additional advantage.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, mission-critical software, or regulated environments is preferred but not required.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is welcome but not mandatory. Demonstrated technical capabilities and practical achievements are valued more highly than formal education.
  • Must reside in the United States and be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without current or future sponsorship.
Personal Attributes
