Job description

Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS Resilience, Incident Prevention

Job ID: 10509622 | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

Join the team with a mission to drive higher availability for every AWS customer! As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the AWS Incident Prevention team, you' ll own products that help thousands of AWS service teams test and improve their resilience posture, and build the next-generation intelligence layer that detects, prevents, and remediates failure modes before they become incidents—directly reducing the frequency and duration of operational events across all of AWS. The team is building a unified detection-to-mitigation experience that meets engineers where they are in the software development lifecycle. Pairing deep technical expertise with customer-focussed product intuition, you will own the technical architecture of AI-powered products that orchestrate resilience testing and turn complex incident data into quality-gated resilience insights that drive action. You will work backwards from customers to own the ideation, design, and delivery of high-quality software while making high-judgment trade-offs across customer impact, software complexity, security and reliability, and engineering velocity. You will strengthen the culture of operational excellence on the team, and influence resilience practices across AWS teams.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate scalable products that help AWS service teams test and improve resilience.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver intuitive customer experiences that help AWS service teams identify, prioritize, and address resilience risks.

  • Lead projects across multiple engineers, make high-judgment one-way-door technical decisions.

  • Own architecture for AI-native systems spanning agents, knowledge bases, and multi-step reasoning pipelines.

  • Deliver developer tools that surface resilience context in code reviews, deployment pipelines, and dashboards.

  • Mentor engineers and raise the bar for software quality and operational practices.

  • Collaborate with partner teams in Amazon to invent and simplify software.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale
