AWS Fintech Team is looking for a results-oriented, innovative software development engineer, who can help us create the next generation of distributed, scalable financial systems. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, relishes working with big data, enjoys the challenge of highly complex business contexts that are typically being defined in real-time. We need someone to design and develop services that facilitate global financial transactions worth billions (USD) annually.

Key job responsibilities

• Drive technical vision and architecture for a cohesive finance platform, unifying multiple offerings into a seamless builder experience.
• Design and implement critical-path systems; own the architecture from whiteboard to production, making decisions that balance scalability with speed-to-market.
• Define and raise engineering standards across the team — code quality, operational readiness, testing patterns, and documentation.
• Solve hard technical problems: sub-second OLAP queries over petabyte-scale financial datasets, building trust through lineage spanning hundreds of pipelines, and designing AI-driven root-cause analysis for data quality at enterprise scale.
• Influence data strategy and investment decisions, partnering with Principal Engineers and senior leaders to shape where we invest next.
• Mentor engineers and raise the hiring bar — grow the people around you and cultivate a culture of engineering excellence.
• Research, prototype, and publish — produce design documents, POCs, and recommendations that broadly influence technical and business leaders across AWS Fintech.
• Identify hotspots and eliminate duplicate work across teams — think in platforms, build with empathy for the engineers who consume your systems.

A day in the life

• Design and code review sessions — writing and reviewing critical-path code, providing architectural guidance to the team.
• Deep-dive into system performance, operational metrics, and customer pain points to identify improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Principal Engineers, and partner teams to refine requirements and align on technical direction.
• Prototype and evaluate new technologies, frameworks, or architectural patterns to solve emerging challenges.
• Participate in operational reviews, on-call rotations, and incident response — ensuring systems meet the reliability bar AWS Finance requires.
• Mentor team members through pairing, design discussions, and code reviews.
• Author and iterate on design documents, technical specs, and architectural decision records.
• Sprint planning and backlog refinement — prioritizing technical debt, feature work, and operational improvements.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
