Job summary

Workday is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer on the Developer Agent team to design and build core platform capabilities advancing Workday toward more AI-powered agentic developer experiences and workflows.

In this role, you will collaborate with principal engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into executable work, uphold API governance, mentor engineers, participate in architecture discussions, and document your features.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with senior ownership of complex production systems.
• 8+ years of JVM backend development (Java or Kotlin) with Spring Boot.
• 8+ years of proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including React.
• 5+ years developing RESTful APIs and managing complex third-party API integrations.
• 5+ years deploying and operating production services in a cloud-native environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with principal engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to translate high level requirements into executable engineering work.
• Uphold API governance and engineering best practices, including versioning, backward compatibility, and security for public surfaces.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing.

About the Role

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer on the Developer Agent team, you will design and build core platform capabilities that advance Workday toward more AI powered agentic developer experiences and workflows.

In this role, you will:

• Collaborate closely with principal engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to translate high level requirements into well-scoped, executable engineering work.
• Uphold API governance and engineering best practices within your team, including versioning, backward compatibility, and security standards for public-facing surfaces.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code review, design feedback, and pairing.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to build-vs-integrate decisions for platform components.
• Write clear technical documentation for your features.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated senior-level ownership of complex production systems.
• 8+ years of experience in JVM-based backend development (Java or Kotlin), with proficiency in the Spring Boot framework.
• 8+ years of proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including experience with React.
• 5+ years developing RESTful APIs and managing complex third-party API integrations.
• 5+ years with hands-on experience deploying and operating production services in a cloud-native environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Other Qualifications

• AI & Agentic Systems: Familiarity with large language model integration strategies, such as OpenAI-compatible APIs, data streaming, and tool/function calling.
• Agentic Coding Tools: Hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, or Cline.
• Backend API Development: Comfortable implementing realtime streaming (SSE/WebSockets) and OpenAI-compatible endpoints.
• Frontend & React: Proficiency in modern frontend technologies including React, HTML, and CSS.
• Code Quality & Testing: Commitment to testing methodologies using frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, JUnit, Cypress, & similar.
• Observability & Operations: Background in application observability, error tracking, metrics instrumentation, and CI/CD workflows.
