UW Medical Center Northwest Social Work seeks a Senior Social Worker for the Outpatient Oncology Unit. This 20-hour/week, day-shift, hybrid role supports NW Breast Surgery Center, NW GynOncClinic, and home-based work one half-day weekly.

The ideal candidate has a Master of Social Work and at least one year of hospital-based oncology social work experience, with WA credentials within 90 days of hire. The position is temporary through mid-2027 and pays hourly.

Qualifications

• MSW degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
• One year of full-time social work experience in a health care setting or equivalent (including practicum).
• Within 90 days of hire, credentials issued by the state of Washington must be obtained (e.g., LSW/LICSW, Agency Affiliated Counselor).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to oncology patients/caregivers based on referrals or scheduled visits.
• Initiate interventions for financial, housing, legal, mental health, and end-of-life planning needs.
• Create and maintain a resource and referral library for major diagnoses.
• Deliver patient-centered care with respect for patients and families.
• Support an environment respecting diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Collaborate with clinic teams as an interdisciplinary member and educate staff about social work roles.

• This is a multi-site hybrid position thatworks one full day a week in the NW Breast Surgery Center, one full day a week in the NW GynOncClinic and half a day aweekhybrid from home.

The ideal candidate will have2years of experience in a hospital setting providing direct service to oncology patients.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• This position will support clinic teams and oncology patients/caregivers by providing direct services in response to referrals by the medical teamand/or scheduled social support visits with newly diagnosed patients.

• Initiate appropriate interventions that may include assessment, financial need, housing, legal issues, drug/alcohol issues, mental health needs, coping and adjustment to illness, advance care and end of life planning, coordination with community resources, coordination with Medicaid brokers and support systems, and address other psychosocial and tangible needs that could affect participation in care.

• Create andmaintaina resource and referral library for eachmajor diagnosis seen in the covered clinics.

• Provide patient-centered care by treating patients and their support systems with respect and dignity.

• Maintainan environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic, and lifestyle differences of patients, visitors, and staff.

• Participateas an Interdisciplinary team member with the clinics serving the patient. Collaborate regardingappropriate referralsto meet patient needs. Provide education to health care providers and staff about the role of Social Work with patients.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and one year of full-time social work experience in a health care setting or equivalent. Experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT:

Within 90 days of hire must hold one of the following credentials issued by the state of Washington:

Agency Affiliated Counselor

Licensed Social Work Associate -Advanced

Licensed Social Work Associate - Independent Clinical
