Job summary

Akamai in the United States is seeking a Senior Server Tech Services Engineer to resolve high-severity hardware and network issues across Akamai's edge infrastructure. You will lead complex escalations and mentor junior engineers to drive operational excellence.

You will collaborate with the cSTS, Network Infrastructure, and Site Reliability Engineering teams to diagnose Layer 1/2 issues, coordinate server repairs, and ensure timely return of equipment to warehouses or vendors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in technology or related field.
• Experience with fault diagnosis in network and server hardware technologies.
• Expert knowledge of Layer 1/Layer 2 troubleshooting, OSI model, and Unix/Linux CLI.

Responsibilities

• Report to the cSTS team lead during critical maintenance projects.
• Collaborate with Network Infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineering teams to assess issues.
• Diagnose high-level hardware and network issues across the global infrastructure.
• Coordinate server repairs with ISP and Field Engineers.
• Coordinate return of Akamai equipment to warehouses or vendors.
• Monitor hardware failure patterns and report trends to Hardware Engineering.

Our Network Infrastructure organization is responsible for Akamai's Edge Platform. It is one of the world's largest distributed platforms consisting of over 250,000+ servers across 137 countries. This platform handles a significant portion of the world's Internet traffic. Our Server Tech Services team works on hardware and network issues on Akamai's infrastructure.

As a Senior Server Tech Services Engineer, you will be responsible for resolving high-severity hardware and network issues across Akamai's infrastructure. You will lead complex technical escalations, mentor junior engineers, and drive operational excellence.

As a Senior Server Tech Services Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Reporting and working closely with the cSTS team lead during critical maintenance projects
• Collaborating with Network Infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineering teams to assess issues and initiate swift workflows
• Diagnosing high-level hardware and network issues across the global infrastructure
• Facilitating server repairs by working with ISP and Field Engineers
• Coordinating the return of Akamai equipment back to the warehouse or vendors
• Monitoring hardware failure patterns and proactively reporting trends to Hardware Engineering and vendors

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in technology, a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Have experience with fault diagnosis in network and server hardware technologies like drives, RAM, motherboards, and RAID
• Possess expert knowledge of Layer 1 and Layer 2 troubleshooting, OSI Model, and Unix/Linux CLI
• Have experience with data center technologies and infrastructure environment management
• Demonstrate solid analytical skills to systematically gather information and resolve complex technical issues
• Be knowledgeable in maintaining solid working relationships with internal teams, third-party service providers, and external vendors
