Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Sensor Validation Engineer to bridge sensor physics with vehicle integration, developing comprehensive characterization plans and leading on‑vehicle validation campaigns across cameras, lidar, and radar. You will guide bench-to-vehicle transitions and work with perception and hardware teams to diagnose anomalies.

You will plan, execute, and analyze validation campaigns on closed courses and public roads, ensuring sensor performance meets safety and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in sensor validation, characterization, or test engineering.
• Experience with L4 autonomous vehicles and associated behaviors.
• Strong knowledge of sensor physics principles (optics, electromagnetics, etc.).
• Experience with on-vehicle data collection and validation.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive characterization plans for sensors (camera, lidar, radar).
• Develop vehicle validation tests for autonomous driving environments.
• Plan and execute on-vehicle data collection campaigns on roads and closed courses.
• Evaluate sensor performance metrics including SNR, dynamic range, and RCS accuracy.
• Transition validated sensor modules from bench to vehicle platforms.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with perception and hardware design teams to root cause issues.
