Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Senior Security Software Engineer to provide technical leadership in Security Operations and to own foundational platforms for governing cloud infrastructure, vulnerability remediation, and security reviews within engineering workflows.

We’re looking for a Senior Security Software Engineer to provide technical leadership within Security Operations. You’ll own and evolve foundational platforms that help Pinterest govern cloud infrastructure, identify and remediate vulnerabilities, automate security compliance and integrate security reviews into engineering workflows.

You’ll translate complex and sometimes ambiguous security requirements into scalable controls, services and paved paths across AWS, CI/CD and the software-development lifecycle. This role combines hands‑on software and infrastructure engineering with architectural ownership, cross‑functional influence and responsibility for the reliability and adoption of security‑critical capabilities.

What you’ll do:

• Own the architecture and technical direction of critical Security Operations systems, automation and developer-facing security capabilities.
• Design and build reliable production services, infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code that govern Pinterest’s cloud resources and software delivery workflows.
• Develop scalable guardrails and paved paths for areas such as identity and access, infrastructure changes, cloud configuration, service hardening and CI/CD security.
• Improve how Pinterest identifies, prioritizes and remediates security issues by integrating vulnerability signals, automating triage and creating clear accountability.
• Lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives from problem definition and technical design through implementation, adoption and operational maturity.
• Establish engineering standards and provide technical guidance that improve the quality, reliability and effectiveness of security systems and partner teams, using AI responsibly to accelerate this work.
• Apply AI to accelerate engineering and security analysis while defining appropriate validation, data‑handling and accountability practices.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience designing, building and operating complex production systems in security engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering or a related area.
• Strong experience with AWS security architecture, Terraform and infrastructure-as-code, ideally in large‑scale or multi‑account environments.
• Experience in one or more relevant areas such as cloud governance, CI/CD security, vulnerability management, security automation, compliance platforms or developer security tooling.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex or ambiguous technical initiatives, including defining architecture, evaluating tradeoffs and delivering impact beyond a single team.
• Strong software engineering judgment across system design, APIs, reliability, observability, testing and the safe operation of security‑critical systems.
• Ability to influence technical decisions, communicate complex risks clearly and raise engineering effectiveness through design reviews, mentorship and responsible use of AI.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

In-Office Requirement Statement:

• We recognize that the ideal environment for work is situational and may differ across departments. What this looks like day-to-day can vary based on the needs of each organization or role.
• This role will need to be in the office for in‑person collaboration 1‑2 times every 6‑months and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.
