Job summary

Amazon in Seattle, WA is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to independently drive security initiatives across multiple services and teams. You will influence engineering with deep expertise in application security, threat modeling, and secure system design, delivering high-impact security outcomes with minimal guidance.

This role partners with service teams to implement security reviews, build tooling, and apply AI-powered automation to reduce manual toil.

Qualifications

4+ years in troubleshooting systems issues, logs, or automating complex tasks.
5+ years identifying security issues and developing mitigation plans.
4+ years scripting, programming, and security code review in common languages.
Knowledge of at least two languages: Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end security reviews for complex services, including threat modeling and testing scopes.
Provide architectural security guidance to service teams throughout the development lifecycle.
Perform threat modeling independently for distributed systems and suggest mitigations.
Conduct targeted manual code reviews of security-critical components.
Scope, coordinate, and oversee penetration testing engagements and remediation.
Identify, document, and track security findings; escalate critical issues.
Mentor junior engineers and raise the security bar across the org.
Design and build security tooling to improve efficiency and scale.
Leverage AI/ML to automate review workflows and vulnerability detection.
