Job summary

Genworth is seeking a Senior Security Engineer, Data, based in Richmond, Virginia, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during core business hours.

You will own data security platforms, onboard data sources, refine classification rules, and partner with application, data, cloud, and business teams to improve data protection outcomes. Sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, CS, or IS.
  • At least 3 years of data security experience.
  • Experience with data security platforms such as BigID/Varonis/Spirion.
  • Experience with DLP tools such as Purview/Forcepoint/Symantec.
  • Strong knowledge of data classification and governance.
  • Understanding of data protection methods (DLP, encryption, tokenization).
  • Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001 and CIS.
  • Experience in enterprise IT environments including cloud, endpoint, SaaS.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Kubernetes environments.

Responsibilities

  • We own the day-to-day operation of data security platforms.
  • We onboard new data sources and maintain scanning coverage.
  • We refine classification rules and validation processes.
  • We optimize DLP policies balancing protection with usability.
  • We identify misclassified or exposed data and drive remediation.
  • We assess data exposure risks and recommend mitigations.
  • We validate data protection controls and labeling.
  • We support data-related incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • We partner with application, data, cloud, and business teams to improve protection.
  • We advise stakeholders on data classification and handling best practices.
  • We participate in governance forums to align on data security strategy.
  • We coordinate with SOC, Identity, and Privacy teams to support security operations.
  • We look for ways to automate discovery, classification, and response workflows.
  • We improve onboarding, tuning, and governance processes.
  • We stay current on insider risk, data leakage, and AI/data misuse.
