Job summary

Peraton is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer specializing in SD-WAN to lead design, deployment, and optimization across enterprise locations. You will collaborate with security, cloud, and operations teams to enhance performance, resiliency, and security of the WAN.

The role requires on-site presence in Ashburn, VA or nearby designated locations, with opportunities to mentor engineers and drive large-scale SD-WAN programs while leveraging cloud on-ramps and automation tooling.

Qualifications

• US citizen with eligibility for DHS clearance.
• 5+ years hands-on network engineering incl SD-WAN design, deployment or operations.
• Experience implementing at least one enterprise SD-WAN platform (Viptela, VeloCloud, Fortinet, or Palo Alto).
• Strong SD-WAN architecture knowledge and routing/tunneling basics (BGP/OSPF/IPsec/GRE).
• Experience integrating SD-WAN with MPLS, broadband, LTE/5G or DIA and QoS.
• Security integration with SASE/SSE and NGFWs.
• Strong TCP/IP fundamentals and complex problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end SD-WAN design, deployment, and migration across sites.
• Architect and implement SD-WAN platforms across multiple vendors.
• Define SD-WAN policies: app-aware routing, QoS, traffic shaping.
• Integrate SD-WAN overlays with various transport media.
• Collaborate on SASE/SSE frameworks alongside SD-WANs.
• Maintain orchestration and management planes (vManage, Orchestrator, VCO).
• Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and failover issues.
• Monitor WAN metrics and optimize circuit utilization.
• Lead network projects from planning to handoff.
• Coordinate with cloud teams for direct cloud on-ramps (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Support automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform or APIs.
• Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 support.
• Mentor junior engineers on SD-WAN concepts and best practices.
• Maintain accurate topology diagrams and runbooks.
