Job summary

Serán BioScience is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Product Development group in Bend, OR. You will design formulation approaches, develop prototypes, and guide the scale-up of manufacturing processes in collaboration with analytical science and process development teams.

You will independently develop experiments, summarize data, and communicate findings to internal partners and external collaborators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master’s degree with relevant years of experience in formulation or drug product development.
  • PhD preferred for deeper research leadership and mentorship.
  • Education requirements align with senior scientist responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop experimental protocols and templates based on project needs.
  • Summarize, report and analyze data to support decision making.
  • Identify out of trend data, form hypotheses and investigate.
  • Evaluate data across projects and draw conclusions.
  • Contribute to lab maintenance and equipment coordination.
  • Communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Author technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Develop and manage workplans; may supervise teams.

Job description

Serán seeks to hire a Senior Scientist to join the Product Development group and contribute as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop and scale-up pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. This role will design products that meet the target product profiles defined by the project sponsor. To accomplish this, they will select the type of formulation approach and propose different prototype variations for manufacturing and testing. They will design experiments to guide the overall formulation approach and to evaluate different prototypes. Additionally, they will collaborate with analytical science and process development experts to form a comprehensive product team.

Responsibilities
  • Independently develops experimental protocols and templates based on project need
  • Independently summarizes, reports, and analyzes data to draw conclusions and proposes next steps
  • Identifies out of trend data, forms hypothesis and investigates
  • Evaluates data and draws conclusions across data sets/projects
  • Contributes to laboratory, instrument, and/or equipment maintenance and coordination
  • Communicates technical information to internal team
  • Independently communicates technical information to external partners
  • Authors technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance
  • Develops and manages workplans
  • May supervise and mentor teams
  • Responsibilities may increase in scope to align with company initiatives
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education
  • B.S. in Science or Engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience
  • M.S. in Science or Engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience
  • Ph.D. in Science or Engineering discipline
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Adheres to consistent and predictable in‑person attendance
  • Motor skills required for basic laboratory operations (pouring liquids, using utensils to transfer powders, visual assessments)
