Job summary

Placements24 in London seeks a Senior Scientist with pharmacology expertise to design and run in vivo/in vitro studies, assessing efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic profiles for novel drug candidates in a modern facility.

You will work with medicinal chemistry, biology and toxicology teams to advance compounds through the drug discovery pipeline, in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Pharmacology, Toxicology or related life science.
  • Minimum 6 years in drug discovery and preclinical development.
  • Experience designing rodent disease models and evaluating outcomes.
  • Knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  • Experience with in vitro assay formats (cell-based, enzyme inhibition).
  • Excellent scientific writing, presentation and interpersonal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and analyze in vivo pharmacology studies for efficacy and mechanism.
  • Develop and validate in vitro assays for target engagement and potency.
  • Characterize PK/ADME properties of drug candidates.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist with a specialization in Pharmacology to join their dynamic research and development team in East London. This crucial role involves designing and executing in vivo and in vitro studies to assess the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic profiles of novel drug candidates. You will collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and toxicologists to advance promising compounds through the drug discovery pipeline. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of life-changing therapeutics within a state-of-the-art facility, working in a hybrid model that balances team collaboration with individual focus in East London.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, conduct, and analyze complex in vivo pharmacology studies to evaluate drug candidate efficacy and mechanism of action.
  • Develop and validate in vitro assays to assess target engagement, pharmacodynamics, and compound potency.
  • Characterize the pharmacokinetic and ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) properties of drug candidates.
  • Interpret experimental data, troubleshoot study designs, and contribute to the strategic direction of research programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including chemistry, biology, and toxicology, to ensure seamless project progression.
  • Prepare detailed study reports, present findings to internal teams, and contribute to regulatory submissions.
Requirements
  • PhD in Pharmacology, Toxicology, or a related life science discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands‑on experience in drug discovery and preclinical development.
  • Proven expertise in designing and conducting rodent models of disease and assessing therapeutic outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and bioanalytical methods.
  • Experience with various in vitro assay formats (e.g., cell-based assays, enzyme inhibition assays).
  • Excellent scientific writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
