Job summary

AbbVie is seeking process engineers to support API and natural products projects through late-stage development, commercialization, and product life cycle.

You will assess unit operations for robustness and scale-up risk from lab to manufacturing, collaborating with technical, quality, regulatory, and on-site personnel to ensure successful program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in chemical engineering or related field.
• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of the chemical engineering discipline.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Leverage core chemical engineering principles (chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, mathematical modeling) in experimental design and data analysis.
• Demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities.
• Maintain autonomous and productive performance in lab experimentation, pilot plant, and/or manufacturing support space, requiring minimal supervision.
• Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
• Investigate areas scientifically impactful to development or commercial programs and propose remediation for product failures.
• Author publications, presentations, technical reports, regulatory documents, and/or patents.
• Demonstrate proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
• Adhere to corporate standards regarding safety, handling of materials, and GxP compliance.
• Serve as subject matter expert to other project team functions and provide mentorship.

Job Description

Processengineers support API and natural products projects through all phases of late-stage development, commercialization,andproduct life cycle.This positionis responsible forassessing key unit operations (e.g., reactions, crystallizations) for process robustness, scientific understanding, and potential scale-up risksfrom the lab to a manufacturing environment.Effective cross-functional interactions withotherfunctions (e.g.,technical,quality, regulatory)and on-site manufacturing personnelarekeyforsuccessful job performance.

Purpose

Develop scalable and robust engineering processes forkey modalities (e.g.,small molecule APIs, antibody drug conjugates,peptides,and natural products).Demonstrate technicalexpertiseandstrong communicationskills in a multidisciplinaryenvironment.Investigate,identify, develop, andoptimizenew methods and techniques. Develop productive collaborations and communications with other groups across scientificdisciplines.

• Demonstrate highproficiencyacrossa wide range of relevant technologies.
• Understandand adhere to corporate standardsregardingcode of conduct, safety,appropriate handlingof materials, controlleddrugand radioactive compounds, andGxPcompliance.
• Be a subject matter expertto other functions within the project team.Direct mentorship of other engineers on project teams.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in chemical engineering or a related field and10+ (BS),8+ (MS), or0+ (PhD) years of relevant industrial experience.
• Possessthorough theoretical and practical understanding ofownscientific discipline.
• Possessexcellent written and oral communication skills.

• The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Companybelieves ingood faith it will pay for this role at thetimeofthis posting based on the job grade for this position.Individualcompensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographiclocation,andwemayultimatelypaymore or less than the posted range. This range may bemodifiedin thefuture.
