Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle invites applications for a Senior Science Writer/Editor. You will manage planning, writing, editing, and production of scientific documents for HIV vaccine and related programs, ensuring quality and adherence to guidelines.

You will collaborate with multiple departments, develop grant materials, create scientific graphics, and support regulatory filings, with a strong emphasis on clarity and accuracy.

Qualifications

• PhD in mathematics, computer science, biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, immunology, or related field.
• 8-10 years’ experience in grant proposal development, scientific writing, or journalism.
• Ability to define complex scientific concepts and communicate clearly.
• Strong technical writing and editing skills with biomedical terminology.
• Experience with grant preparation and regulatory filings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare outlines for manuscripts including methods sections with no delays.
• Produce high-quality figures, tables and graphics for publications and grants.
• Copyedit and proofread manuscripts and coordinate journal submissions.
• Lead revisions to highly technical documents such as grant proposals and manuscripts.
• Translate complex scientific information for lay audiences on websites and brochures.
• Review literature to support grants and manuscripts and stay current in field.
