Job summary

Xebia, a global AI-first technology partner, is seeking an experienced Scala backend engineer to join our enterprise-grade teams in Europe. You will design, develop, and optimize large-scale services, and collaborate across product, data, and platform groups to deliver reliable solutions.

The role emphasizes performance tuning, production troubleshooting, mentoring peers, and adopting AI-assisted workflows to improve quality and delivery speed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial Scala backend development.
• Strong experience building scalable backend applications.
• Background in system performance tuning and optimization.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
• Understanding of backend engineering best practices and design principles.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Fluent English (B2).

You will be:

Your profile:

• 5+ years of commercial experience in Scala backend development,
• strong experience building and maintaining scalable backend applications,
• solid background in system performance tuning and optimization,
• practical experience using AI‑powered assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity, quality, or decision‑making in software delivery,
• ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues,
• strong understanding of backend engineering best practices and software design principles,
• proactive approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement,
• strong collaboration and communication skills,
• good command of English (min. B2).

Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.

Nice to have:

Experience applying GenAI in a more structured way within the SDLC, including defined workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations embedded into daily work.

• Interest in and familiarity with emerging AI‑driven practices (e.g. agent‑based workflows, automation patterns, AI‑augmented development), with a willingness to explore and experiment beyond standard approaches.
