Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Ground Software Engineer to join our space systems team. You will design, develop, and deploy ground software for satellite operations, including command and control, telemetry, and ground station integration, collaborating with hardware engineers and operators.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in software engineering for satellite ground systems, strong Python, Java, and C++, Linux experience, and leadership skills to mentor teammates while delivering reliable,

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, focused on satellite ground systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience leading a software team through product development.
• Prior experience as a satellite operator.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, and C++.
• Experience with satellite test and data collection applications.
• Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols (CCSDS, CSP).
• Familiarity with ground station hardware and RF principles.
• Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, and cloud-based systems.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy ground software systems for a new satellite system (command/control, telemetry, ground station software).
• Rapidly deliver a simple, reliable ground system.
• Implement real-time data acquisition, processing, and visualization for satellite telemetry.
• Integrate and test ground software with satellite, ground stations, and networks.
• Develop automated systems for satellite operation and ground system monitoring.
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation including simulations and real-world scenarios.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues during satellite operations.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and other software teams for seamless integration.
• Stay updated with satellite comms tech and incorporate relevant innovations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the software team.
