Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field with 5+ years' experience; or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated team management or project leadership required.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and work well with others.
  • Knowledge of food industry dynamics or retail channels.
  • Experience in customer-focused selling with data insights (IRI, Nielsen).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, planning and adaptability.
  • Respectful, team-oriented and capable of building relationships.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 75%.
  • SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Sales Responsibility: achieve budgeted sales to key customers and grow accounts.
  • Communications and Product Management: stay informed on product, marketing and R&D to meet customer needs.
  • Customer Service: ensure prompt, equitable handling of complaints with possible HQ involvement.

As a Sales Team member, your primary responsibility will be introducing and placing new products with customers, executing organizational initiatives, and driving sales on key items with strategic customers for long-term growth. Whether it is bacon, ham, fresh pork or another product category you will work directly with the customers and cross-functional with everyone from Business Management to Plant Operations to deliver the service and products to our customers and consumers.

As a Senior Sales Account Manager, you will handle larger, more strategic or high-value accounts. You will ensure your accounts grow, expand, and become long-term strategic partner of Smithfield Foods. You will be supported by a Sales Director, Regional Sales Manager, or National Accounts Manager. You will be responsible to establish and maintain customer relationships through daily corporate to corporate contact to communicate pricing, product availability, and order management. You may mentor junior staff or lead a small team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Direct Sales Responsibility: Accountable for achieving budgeted sales of consumer goods to key customers. Develop and achieve maximum sales volume consistent with sales projections for accounts served. Maintain business with existing accounts for continued growth. Drive the discovery and use of consumer and customer insights to enhance sales performance with our customers. Implement and execute Smithfield sales plans to promote product lines.

  • Communications and Product Management: Maintain current knowledge of Smithfield's product management, marketing , R&D efforts in order to increase sales and satisfy customer demands for new items. Cultivate business relations with personnel at various levels in order to communicate product availability, logistics information, product specifications, and pricing as needed.

  • Customer Service:Ensure prompt and equitable disposition of customer complaints or problems; this may require communication with corporate headquarters.

  • Leadership:Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business or related field and 5+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.

  • Respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Knowledge of the dynamics of the food business industry or retail channels.

  • Experience of customer-focused and fact-based selling, including IRI, Nielsen and Perishable Group data.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, and adaptability.

  • Respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Ability to work well in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • May travel up to 75% of the time.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:
