Job summary

Insight Global in San Antonio is seeking a Senior Safety Leader to oversee BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene programs, ensuring compliance with environmental safety regulations and internal policies across laboratories and facilities.

You will monitor safety performance, address gaps, coordinate regulatory inquiries, lead training programs, and develop disaster preparedness plans, while partnering with HR Safety and Operations on safety initiatives and incident investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or associate's with experience).
  • Valid US Driver's License.
  • 5+ years of occupational safety in healthcare, industrial hygiene, or environmental roles in bio-manufacturing or similar.
  • Experience with blood-borne pathogens, chemical hazards, and biohazards.
  • Strong training, supervision and EH&S management background.
  • Experience leading emergency preparedness or disaster recovery exercises.
  • Experience communicating to senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (waste, chemical handling, bloodborne).
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness and disaster recovery processes.
  • Ability to write procedures and reports.
  • Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene safety program to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Monitor safety performance and address gaps and risks across labs and facilities.
  • Coordinate regulatory inquiries, concerns and inspections with regards to BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene.
  • Collaborate on investigations of incidents and near-misses with HR Safety Representative.
  • Provide oversight to safety training, new hire safety training and fire drill coordination.
  • Develop inspection policies and routine inspection schedules.
  • Develop and deliver BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene training programs; manage external stakeholder relationships.
  • Develop, revise and implement continuity, disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation plans.
  • Lead disaster preparedness exercises and summarize actions and lessons learned.
  • Review plans for installation of new machinery to meet safety requirements.
  • Review and approve safety equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure training and maintenance of procedures for first responders and onsite vendors.
  • Maintain permits with state and federal agencies regarding BioHazard and Chemical Hygiene.
  • Co-lead safety meetings and Safety Council; partner with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Contribute current safety topics to Be Safe BBG meetings.

Job description

  • Oversee the BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene safety program to ensure the organization complies with environmental safety regulations and standards as well as internal environmental policies.
  • Monitors overall safety performance and ensures gaps and risks are addressed to include performance and compliance with General Safety Policy, Hazard Communication Policy, Exposure Control Policy, Regulated Medical Waste Policy and Chemical Hygiene Policy in areas such as laboratories, processing facilities and donor collection areas.
  • Coordinate, support and respond to applicable Federal, State or Local regulatory inquiries, concerns and inspections with regards to BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene.
  • As needed, collaborate on the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures with HR Safety Representative.
  • Provide oversight to safety warden training program, new hire safety training and coordinate periodic fire drills.
  • Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections of laboratories, donor collection facilities and administrative areas.
  • Develop and deliver BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene training programs; manage relationships with community or applicable external stakeholders.
  • Develop, revise and implement business continuity, disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation plans, policies and procedures.
  • Lead the disaster preparedness exercises, simulations and live events to include summarizing actions taken and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with Operations to review plans and specifications for installation of new machinery or equipment to ensure all safety requirements have been met.
  • Reviews and approves safety equipment and applicable procedures.
  • Ensures training and maintenance of procedures and recommendations for first responder's teams, contract employees, onsite vendors and internal employees.
  • Ensures applicable permits are maintained with applicable State and Federal Agencies regarding BioHazard and Chemical Hygiene.
  • In collaboration with the HR Safety Representative, co-leads safety meetings and the Safety Council, creates and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the HR Safety Representative, contribute current safety training topics to include in monthly Be Safe BBG meetings.
  • Ensures the Safety Council meets on a regular basis and completes action items in a timely manner.
  • Manages MSDS program for materials, including hazardous chemicals used at company facilities, ensuring operational departments keep an up-to-date MSDS.
  • Implements new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Willing to travel to different facilities/locations within the BBG Enterprise, including out-of-state facilities.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree (or associate's with appropriate amount of experience)
  • Valid US Driver's License
  • 5+ years of occupational safety in a healthcare facility, industrial hygiene, or environmental experience in a bio-manufacturing, high volume laboratory, pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, or a similar background.
  • Experience working in environments that use and or process blood-borne pathogens, chemical hazards, and biohazards.
  • Strong background in training employees, supervision and management in all areas of Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
  • Experience leading emergency preparedness or disaster recovery exercises within a department or organization.
  • Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership.
