Job summary

X4 Engineering is seeking a Senior Product Safety Engineer in the United States (California) to work across a range of consumer products, ensuring compliance with IEC 60335-1, IEC 62368-1 and related codes. You will support other engineers, sales staff and customers while scoping projects and preparing quotes.

You will lead testing tasks, perform design reviews, write technical reports and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of product safety experience in a TIC laboratory, specifically with IEC 60335-1 and IEC 62368-1.

Responsibilities

• Apply in-depth knowledge of IEC 60335-1 and IEC 62368-1.
• Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
• Test products to standards and requirements including core tests such as power input, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, and IP testing.
• Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
• Identify test instruments and equipment needed and set up test plans.
• Perform preliminary design reviews on and off site.
• Write technical reports and review reports and test plans as a reviewer.
• Train and mentor less senior staff.
• Support sales with customer communication and attend product reviews.

A leading Testing, Inspection & Certification (TIC) laboratory is looking for a Senior Product Safety Engineer with strong working knowledge of IEC 60335-1 and IEC 62368-1. You'll work independently across a variety of products to U.S., Canadian and international product safety standards, while supporting other engineers, sales staff and customers. Project scoping and quoting form part of the role.

Key responsibilities

• Apply in-depth knowledge of IEC 60335-1 and IEC 62368-1 (IEC 61010-1 a plus, not required)
• Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT)
• Test products to standards and requirements – core tests include power input, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, stability, mechanical hazards, flammability, abnormal and single fault, IP testing and others as required
• Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions
• Identify test instruments and equipment needed, and set up test plans
• Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) on and off site
• Write technical reports and review reports and test plans as a technical reviewer
• Train and mentor less senior technical staff
• Support sales with customer communication – attend product reviews and answer technical questions
• Scope and quote projects
• Manage multiple projects at once

Requirements

• Four-year degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience
• 7+ years of product safety experience in a TIC laboratory, specifically with IEC 60335-1 and IEC 62368-1
• TIC experience is essential
• Ability to act as a technical reviewer on projects
• Willing to travel up to 20%, including local client-site testing
• Valid driver's licence
