CEC Companies seeks a Senior Safety Coordinator to implement safety programs across a large project site, conduct field walks, and oversee regulatory compliance and audits. The role includes coaching field personnel toward safer practices and developing corrective actions for safety issues.

You will mentor Safety Coordinators, support Foremen in Job Hazard Analyses, and help deliver job-site safety orientations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction safety experience (electrical, mechanical safety preferred).
  • OSHA 500 or 501 required; CHST, OHST, or CSHO preferred.
  • Understanding of NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI standards.
  • CPR/FA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring to Safety Coordinators and coaching to Foremen in JHA development.
  • Deliver and co-facilitate safety training and orientations for new hires.
  • Assist in incident investigations and case management of injuries/illnesses.
  • Audit equipment and tool safety, and monitor subcontractor compliance.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, attend safety meetings, and provide frontline feedback.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and recognize safe behaviors across the site.

Position SummaryThe successful Senior Safety Coordinator will implement CECs safety programs by conducting daily field walks, taking care of regulatory compliance and audit oversight, and developing project specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns. This individual will also be responsible for the proper safety training of our field personnel as well as coaching and mentoring for employees to help facilitate safe behaviors and an overall safety culture at a large project site.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide mentoring to Safety CoordinatorsSupport with assisting and coaching Crew Foreman/General Foremen in the development of Job Hazard Analyses.Ability to work day and/or night shifts, possible overtime, and weekends.Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks. Regulatory compliance and audit oversight.Meet regularly with field personnel and support in the development of project-specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concernsProvide regular feedback to project leadership in a constructive manner on needed areas for safety improvement and recognition.Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors.Assist with delivery of job site-specific safety orientations for new employees joining the project, as applicable.Assist and co-facilitate safety training, testing for all employees (HazCom, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tag-out, etc.)Support and assisting Project Leadership in completion of incident investigations.Assistance with case management all injury/illness cases.Perform periodic evaluations of power tools and equipment (i.e. scissor lifts, forklifts, fall protection, laser levelers, etc.) to ensure equipment is being maintained in good working order, as applicable.Monitor and evaluate Subcontractor compliance with applicable rules and regulations, and project safety requirements.Support Project Leadership in the development and execution of weekly toolbox safety meetings.Attend the assigned safety meetings each morningEnsure that meetings are taking place dailyAudit for continuity of topics to be discussedEvaluate the participation of the crew and/or whether the foreman gave them an opportunity to do soEvaluate meetings and provide feedback to project leadership on effectivenessEnsure Leadmen, Foremen and Superintendents are evaluating the work areas effectively, executing corporate safety program and giving appropriate coaching as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.Education and ExperienceDegree or extensive training in environmental health and safety discipline a plus5+ years in construction safety experience (electrical, mechanical safety experience preferred)OSHA 500 or 501 required; CHST, OHST, or CSHO preferredRequired Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesUnderstanding of electrical industry construction and general industry consensus standards such as NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSIExperience with construction workforce desiredCPR/FA CertifiedAbility and experience with presenting and training othersAbility to work independently, strong communication skills with the ability to influence behaviorsProficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)Safety certifications in competency desiredBi-lingual desiredWork EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed.
