Job summary

LangChain in San Francisco seeks a systems/database engineer to design, optimize, and harden our distributed storage engine. You’ll work on ingestion, storage layout, and query execution on Kubernetes-based services.

The role requires 5+ years in systems engineering with Rust or C++, strong knowledge of database internals, and experience with cloud object storage. This is an on-site role in San Francisco with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in systems/database engineering with strong experience in a systems programming language (Rust, C++).
• Knowledge of database internals: query engines, storage, indexing, and compaction.
• Proficiency in systems performance analysis: memory, CPU hotspots, lock contention, async runtimes.
• Experience with Kubernetes, distributed systems, and cloud object storage is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engineer performant Rust code for ingestion and query execution.
• Optimize for cost and speed with memory and CPU profiling.
• Integrate with cloud object stores (S3/GCS/Azure Blob).
• Deploy distributed database services on Kubernetes (multi-tenant, high throughput, low latency).
• Contribute to observability for the storage engine (metrics, tracing, debug tooling).
