Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. in Los Angeles seeks a Senior/Staff Robotics Software Engineer to help design and implement real-time control software for a next-generation ophthalmology robotic system.

You will ensure deterministic timing and high reliability while optimizing latency and throughput across a distributed system. The role requires Linux-based development, DDS/IPC experience, and collaboration with control engineers and clinicians in a fast-paced startup环境.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (at least C++11).
• Knowledge of DDS or an alternative IPC mechanism (e.g., gRPC).
• Experience deploying and testing software in a Linux environment.
• Prior experience with mission-critical software and embedded C/C++ is useful.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain real-time robot controls software with deterministic timing and fail-safes.
• Optimize the controls data pipeline across PCs with network and DDS QoS settings.
• Bridge non-deterministic IPC to deterministic event-loops.
• Collaborate with control algorithm engineers to optimize control loops.
• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, and maintain high coding standards.
• Test software with/without hardware using virtual fixtures to aid automation.
