Job summary

Google Robotics is seeking a Senior Robotics Automation Engineer to lead cross-disciplinary teams in advancing robotics hardware and software for data centre operations. You will drive architecture, design reviews, and system integration with a focus on scalable, deployed robotics solutions.

You will collaborate with hardware, software, and system engineers to ensure seamless product integration and contribute to the broader AI and infrastructure initiatives at Google.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mechatronics engineering and robotics product development.
  • Experience in shipping full-stack robotics systems.
  • Experience in robotics industry, robotics applications development and turning R&D into deployed, real world systems.
  • Experience in robotic control, planning, kinematics, and mechatronic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Set the goal for robotics stack-guiding architecture, systems design, and integration, and align with Robotics initiatives and roadmap.
  • Build and lead high-performing engineering teams across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software disciplines within Robotics engineering.
  • Lead hardware architecture reviews with software and system teams to identify and address gaps in the technical design.
  • Facilitate and participate in design reviews, document decisions, specifications, test procedures, and results for knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and external partners throughout the development life-cycle.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mechatronics engineering and robotics product development.
  • Experience in shipping full-stack robotics systems.
  • Experience in robotics industry, robotics applications development and experience turning Research and Development (R&D) into deployed, real world systems.
  • Experience in robotic control, planning, kinematics, and mechatronic systems.
Preferred qualifications
  • 5 years of experience with the overall process for developing robotics products, including experience identifying issues and considerations for delivering a robotics product.
  • Experience with sensor integration and calibration for robotics applications, including vision systems, LiDAR, and inertial measurement units (IMUs).
  • Experience in project management or leadership roles, including the experience in leading cross-functional teams and driving projects to successful completion.
  • Experience with collaborative robot (cobot) systems, human-robot interaction (HRI) design considerations, embedded systems (RTOS, microcontrollers, FPGA), sensor fusion, and actuator control.
  • Experience building hardware and embedded architectures that support state estimation, SLAM, and proprioception sensor pipelines, while ensuring compliance with embodied AI safety standards across distributed fleet orchestration environments.
  • Familiarity with motion control systems and robotics programming languages such as ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar frameworks.

US: $159000 - $230000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
  • Set the goal for robotics stack-guiding architecture, systems design, and integration, and collaborate closely with executive leadership to align on Robotics initiatives and roadmap, engineering execution with business goals.
  • Build and lead high-performing engineering teams across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software disciplines within Robotics engineering.
  • Lead hardware architecture reviews with software and system teams to identify and address potential gaps in the technical design, ensuring the overall solution performance and scalability.
  • Facilitate and participate in design reviews to address technical challenges during the development, document design decisions, specifications, test procedures, and results, maintaining clear and organized records to improve knowledge sharing and project continuity.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and external partners (including solution vendors and Contract Manufacturers) throughout the development life-cycle, addressing inquiries and resolving issues as they arise.
