Job summary

At AtkinsRéalis in Texas is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer/Task Lead to manage roadway design teams on highway projects across the Central Region. You will perform planning, design, production coordination, and reporting while mentoring staff to support project delivery and client satisfaction.

The role requires a BS/MS in Civil Engineering, 7+ years in highway design, TX P.E. license, and proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoad Designer; AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.

Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated self‑starter to join our Central Region Roads & Highways team in Texas as a Senior Roadway Engineer/Task Lead on various Highway and Roadway projects. In this role, you will apply technical expertise to manage roadway design teams on a variety of transportation projects. Also performs the basic project functions of production coordination, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, marketing assistance, and financial management. Functions as a mentor to assist others in their training and development. Responsible for project delivery for programs and projects across multiple Business Units and local clients including HCTRA, TxDOT, City of Sugarland, and City of Houston to name a few. This position has tremendous growth and career development potential.

Your role

As a Senior Roadway Engineer:

• Applies standard engineering practices and techniques in specific situations which may include the following:
• Assists in the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings. May supervise the production of these drawings. Carries out specific assignments in preparing and assembling specifications.
• Participates in conducting engineering investigations and planning work by completing well-defined tasks. These tasks may include collection and analysis of data using established procedures, performance of routine calculations, and participation in evaluating the feasibility of alternate solutions.
• Prepares assigned sections of reports working under the close review of a more experienced professional.
• Participates on projects involving construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with easily interpreted specifications; assists in recordkeeping and in generating progress reports; observes relatively simple construction procedures and collects samples for quality control testing.
• Performs data acquisition and analysis, researching the feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and/or regulatory agency specifications or regulations.
• Prepares material for reports and permit applications, gathering information, writing rough outline, and/or preparing work progression documents and graphic presentations.
• Performs engineering calculations.
• Performs field observations of construction where appropriate.
• Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

About you

• BS and/or MS in Civil Engineering.
• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• Must have highway/roadway design experience.
• Excellent technical and interpersonal skills.
• DOT experience is a plus but not a requirement.
• P.E. license in TX is required.
• MicroStation, Open Road Designer.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D recommended but not required.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $120,000 - $160,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
