Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer to support our Southeast Region in the Atlanta, GA area. A BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited college is required, with 6–12 years of roadway design experience and a PE license.

The role involves leading design efforts, coordinating with subconsultants, and ensuring quality through established standards. Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and InRoads is preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 6-12 years relevant experience in roadway design.
  • PE license is required.
  • GDOT experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or InRoads.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory MVR.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist in development of project designs and direct EIs and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work.
  • Calculate plan quantities and develop engineering estimates, develop construction specifications, and coordinate with subconsultants.
  • Apply established engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or standards.

  • Deliver transportation and civil design projects in a team environment and participate in business development.

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer to support our Southeast Region located in Atlanta, GA.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing EIs and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
  • Calculating plan quantities and developing engineering estimates, developing construction specifications, and coordinating with subconsultants
  • Applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or standards
  • Preparing reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and designs for projects
  • Working in a team environment team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects and participating in business development efforts and meetings with clients
  • Participating in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. Coordinating work to ensure best practices with all team members
  • Adjust and correlate data, recognizing discrepancies in results
  • Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
  • Apply standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
  • Understand and adhere to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project
  • Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
What You Need To Have
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 6 - 12 years relevant experience in roadway design
  • Must have proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules, and budgets
  • Written and communication skills
  • GDOT experience is preferred but not required
  • PE is required
  • Experienced in DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
  • Proficient with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or Inroads
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
