Candidates should possess substantial experience in heavy industrial rigging, be proficient with lift planning, and ensure safety during docking and undocking evolutions.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 3 years of rigging experience in a heavy industrial work environment such as ship building or outfitting or commercial building construction.
  • Knowledge of common rigging operations on U.S. Naval Surface Ship and Submarine platforms.
  • Proficient with installation, removal, and repositioning of machinery, structural members, heavy equipment or other loads.
  • Proficient at estimating weights and center of gravity of loads and selecting lifting gear.
  • Proficient using multipoint suspension techniques to maneuver loads.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, lay out, assemble, repair and install complex weight handling gear and rigging.
  • Attach hoisting gear from crane hooks to ships or shipyard equipment and move heavy loads precisely.
  • Position and secure loads on trucks, trailers or railcars for safe transport.
  • Direct cranes and similar equipment to move items in and out of dry docks, ships or buildings.
  • Estimate sizes and weights of items for lifting using chain falls and crane hooks.
