Job summary

Teradyne Innovation Lab, part of the Semiconductor Test Division, is hiring a Senior Microwave R&D Engineer in North Reading, MA. You will lead pathfinding for sub-THz instrumentation and develop OTA methods for next-gen RF/Sensing ICs.

You will prototype, simulate, measure, and refine designs, collaborating across teams to integrate microwave subsystems into Teradyne’s automated test systems. 10+ years in microwave design required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field; PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of microwave design experience above 10 GHz.
  • Expertise in antenna simulation, design, and hands-on testing with calibration.
  • Proficient in RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST) and measurement equipment (VNAs, spectrum analyzers).
  • Skilled in MATLAB and Python software development.
  • PCB layout rules for high-frequency signal integrity (>10 GHz).
  • Knowledge of beamforming, phased arrays, mm-wave packaging, and radar/sensing signal processing.
  • Strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Prefer experience in waveguide/antenna design, OTA measurements.

Opportunity Overview

The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:

  • Create long-term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
  • Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.

We are seeking a Senior Microwave R&D Engineer to join the Teradyne Innovation Lab – the team responsible for developing breakthrough concepts for use in Semiconductor Test Systems of the future. This role is instrumental in shaping Teradyne’s vision for testing ICs that will be used from RF to sub-THz frequencies with high modulation bandwidths in emerging applications for communication, sensing, and other products.

  • Lead the pathfinding design and development of sub-THz instrumentation for next-generation communication and sensing ICs
  • Develop Over-the-Air (OTA) hardware and innovative test methodologies
  • Build and iterate on prototypes, validating performance through simulation, measurement, and refinement
  • Support the integration of advanced microwave subsystems into Teradyne’s automated test equipment portfolio

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $166,300- 266,100. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan

This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
