Job summary

STR is seeking an experienced RF Engineer to join the Space Missions and Sensing (SMS) Sector near Boston, MA, to support design, development, integration, and test activities in a fast-paced R&D environment.

You will contribute to countersensing systems for radar, electronic warfare, and related applications, designing deployable RF hardware and collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to advance sensing capabilities. U.S. citizenship and Top Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with RF components and subsystems.
  • Design experience in RF systems, subsystems, and/or component analysis (frequency planning, link-budget analysis, transceiver architectures).
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python and/or other higher-level languages.
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, implement, and test RF hardware systems as deployable prototypes; transition to low-volume products.
  • Quantify goals, performance objectives, requirements, metrics, dependencies, and risks.
  • Design, simulate, and test RF hardware systems with emphasis on integration, test, and verification.
  • Perform trade studies and analyses of proposed hardware architectures; validate with simulations and real-world tests.
  • Build bench-top tests, calibrate, and document system performance.
  • Collaborate with signal processing team on test concepts and execution methods.
  • Plan OTA system tests, evaluate hardware readiness, develop performance metrics, and write procedures and reports.
  • Review system effectiveness and identify opportunities to mature subsystems and capabilities.
  • Prepare design specifications, drawings, test plans, and reports.

About the Team

The STR Sensors Division specializes in the development of advanced sensor systems, with a particular focus on airborne and surface-based radar, space-based sensing, electronic warfare, and underwater acoustics. This position is within the Space Missions and Sensing (SMS) Sector of the Sensors Division. In this sector, we develop and deliver technology to advance space-based sensing, space control, and counter-sensing missions.

The Role

The SMS Sector is seeking a RF Engineer to support design, development, integration and test activities in a Research & Development environment. In this role, you will be an integral part of a team developing countersensing systemsfor radar, electronic warfare and other applications. What you will do
  • Workwithsmall,multi-disciplinaryteamstoarchitect,design, implement, and testRF hardware systemsenablingnovel sensing, electronic warfare, and signal processing systems.The systemsare predominantlyfielded asdeployable prototypes with the objective of transitioningto low-volume product systems
  • Collaborate with the team toquantifygoals,system performance objectives, requirements, metrics,dependencies, andrisksto guide yourwork
  • Design, simulate and test RF hardware systems, with an emphasis on RF system integration, test, and verification
  • Performperformancetradestudies andanalyses of proposed hardwarearchitectures. Conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate system performance.
  • Build,perform bench-topunit test,integrate, calibrate, and demonstrate/document system performance
  • Work withsignal processing team on sensing system testconcept and execution methods
  • Plan and implement over-the-air system tests and demonstrations, evaluate hardware and system readiness,, develop and evaluate performance metrics,verify requirements, manage system configuration and data, and write operational procedures, and performance reports
  • Review system effectiveness and identify opportunities toadvance and/or mature subsystems and system capabilities
  • Prepare documentation including design specifications, drawings, test plans, and reports
Who you are
  • This position requiresthe ability to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship isrequiredby U.S.Government
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ yearsexperience workingwithRFcomponentsandsubsystems, includingT/R modules,rotary joints, pedestal,filters, radiatingstructures,isolators, amplifiers, cables, ADC/DAC,etc
  • Designexperiencein: RF systems,subsystem s,and/or component analysis(frequency planning,linkbudget analysis,transceiverarchitectures, cascade analysis)
  • Experienced in RF component/subsystem/systemtest and measurement equipmentand techniques(anechoicchambers, oscilloscopes, vector networkanalyzers, spectrum analyzers, signalgenerators)
  • Proficiency in MATLABand/or Pythonand/orother higher-level languages
  • Strong Mathematical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills
Even Better
  • Experience integrating hardware and software, software development and or experience integrating FPGA’s
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience with:
  • RFsystems engineeringand technologiesinone or more of thefollowing areas:sensing and electronic warfare applications including electronic attack, electronic protection, cognitive EW, radar, and advanced ESM techniques
  • Priordesignexperiences in one or more of the following:
  • Antennas
  • RFPrintedCircuitBoards
  • RF Integrated Circuits
  • Transceiver building blocks (power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, oscillators, mixers, filters)

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $134,000 - $184,000

The salary range listed is based on external market data. Offers are based on factors, such as but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills/critical skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
