Job summary

The City of Chicago’s Office of the Corporation Counsel is seeking a Deputy Corporation Counsel – Revenue Litigation to serve as a senior member and primary liaison on taxes and revenue with city officials. You will oversee litigation strategy and coordination across divisions and outside counsel.

The role requires JD from an ABA-accredited school, Illinois Bar, 10+ years of litigation and management experience, and a proven ability to work across departments to advance city revenue matters.

Qualifications

• JD from ABA-accredited law school
• Illinois Bar license and active Illinois practice license with 10+ years of legal experience including significant litigation
• Management/executive level experience
• Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management
• Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments

Responsibilities

• Litigate declaratory judgments concerning taxes, fees, and revenue measures
• Litigate tax assessments protested at the Department of Administrative Hearings or in court
• Litigate disputes involving the City’s concession agreements and proprietary funds
• Draft legislation and regulations on taxes and revenue at local, state, and federal levels
• Advise City departments (Finance, Budget, Mayor’s Office) on taxes and revenue matters
• Advise taxpayers, attorneys and accountants on City taxes and maintain organized records of tax ordinances and rulings
