Job summary

Empower Aesthetics is seeking a Senior Revenue Accountant to join our Finance team. You will own the revenue, accounts receivable, and deferred revenue accounting across multiple locations, ensuring accurate recognition under U.S. GAAP and company policies.

The role emphasizes automation and data-driven improvements, collaborating with Operations, IT, and Finance to implement efficient processes and resolve system issues. Remote-with-onsite as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
• CPA or active progress toward CPA preferred.
• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in revenue accounting or complex reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
• Experience with deferred revenue, customer deposits, gift cards, memberships, packages, or prepaid services preferred.
• Strong Excel and data analysis skills; experience with large data sets.
• Experience with ERP and customer/operational systems.
• Interest in using AI/automation tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Power Query.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly accounting and reconciliation of revenue, collections, and deferred revenue across locations and streams.
• Ensure revenue recognition complies with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
• Analyze and account for deferred revenue from packages, memberships, gift cards, prepaid services, and related liabilities.
• Prepare journal entries for revenue, deferred revenue, refunds, discounts, and promotions.
• Review trends and investigate unusual fluctuations or variances.
• Identify opportunities to automate reconciliations, data analysis, and month-end close.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Revenue Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. This individual will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of revenue, accounts receivable and deferred revenue, across a growing, multi-location business.

The Senior Revenue Accountant will be responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of complex revenue streams, including services, packages, memberships, gift cards, and prepaid services. This role will work closely with Operations, Finance, and IT to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled across operational systems and the general ledger.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, has a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles, and is interested in leveraging technology and automation to improve accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Accounting and Recognition

• Own the monthly accounting and reconciliation of revenue, collections and deferred revenue across multiple locations and revenue streams.
• Ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting policies.
• Analyze and account for deferred revenue related to customer packages, memberships, gift cards, prepaid services, and other customer liabilities.
• Prepare journal entries related to revenue, deferred revenue, refunds, discounts, promotions, breakage, and other revenue-related activity.
• Review revenue trends and investigate unusual fluctuations or variances.

Systems, Process Improvement, and Automation

• Identify opportunities to improve and automate manual accounting processes, particularly related to reconciliations, data analysis, reporting, and month-end close.
• Leverage AI and automation tools, including Claude, ChatGPT and/or similar technologies, to improve the efficiency and accuracy of accounting workflows.
• Work with Finance, Operations, and IT to resolve system integration and data issues affecting revenue reporting.

Audit and Cross-Functional Support

• Support internal and external audit requests related to revenue and deferred revenue.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new products, services, promotions, and customer programs.
• Assist with other accounting projects and initiatives as needed.

Requirements

• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably including revenue accounting, revenue recognition, or complex balance sheet reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
• Experience with deferred revenue, customer deposits, gift cards, memberships, packages, or prepaid services preferred.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills, with experience working with large volumes of data.
• Experience with ERP and operational or customer management systems.
• Experience and/or high interest in using AI or automation tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Power Query, and/or similar technologies.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.

Location:

• Remote with required onsite attendance at our Shore office 2-3 times per month and additional in-office time as needed during month-end close, year-end activities, and other business-critical periods.
