Job summary

Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association seeks a Retirement Payroll Specialist I to prepare, process, and balance the defined benefit monthly payroll for approximately 142,000 recipients. The role requires strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, and compliance with PERA rules and policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Accounting, or another related field preferred or three (3)+ years of relevant experience
• Highly detail oriented with strong numerical and analytical aptitude
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and related business software

Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate processing of PERA’s monthly benefit recipient payroll
• Use mathematical and analytical reasoning to perform calculations and identify data inconsistencies
• Develop understanding of PERA’s defined benefit program and provide information to stakeholders
• Perform defined benefit calculations and process modifications to benefit payments
• Communicate benefit information professionally with members and retirees
• Meet deadlines and contribute to team efficiency
• Research and process benefit recipient account updates and deductions
• Investigate payroll issues and resolve uncashed payments
• Collaborate to improve transactional efficiency and reduce errors
• Maintain and develop payroll systems and participate in training
