Job summary

The SEI AI Division at Carnegie Mellon University seeks a senior research scientist with proven expertise in advanced computing and AI engineering to identify, shape, apply, conduct, and lead research addressing critical U.S. government needs.

The ideal candidate will lead interdisciplinary teams, prototype operational capabilities, publish results, mentor staff, and help expand a strategic research agenda across hardware/software co-design, HPC, FPGA/CGRA/TPU, and AI/ML applications.

Qualifications

  • Mastery of C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL and other pertinent languages and tools.
  • Experience leading research projects and mentoring researchers.
  • Experience writing and delivering successful research proposals to funding agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead novel research in advanced computing and applied ML.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to turn research into prototype capabilities for government customers.
  • Conduct rapid prototyping to demonstrate technologies in relevant environments.
  • Test and evaluate new systems for performance and usability.
  • Collaborate with researchers, developers, engineers, designers, and government customers to understand challenges and solutions.
  • Mentor and teach junior staff and establish technical norms.
  • Explore latest hardware including FPGAs, CGRAs, TPUs, and neuromorphic processors.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations for diverse audiences and publish in journals.
