Job summary

Google’s Search Ads team in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Senior Research Data Scientist to turn product and business questions into data-driven analyses and models that improve the search experience. You will own the full data workflow from gathering to validation for analysis, and work onsite in Mountain View.

Work on how search ads experiences improve end to end. As a Senior Research Data Scientist on Google’s Search Ads team (onsite in Mountain View, CA), you’ll turn product and business questions into data-driven analyses and models that help AdsUI partners enhance user interfaces, ad formats, and the overall search page experience. You will own the full data workflow, from gathering and extraction to validation and preparation for analysis.

What you’ll do

• Partner with stakeholders across projects and within team settings to identify and clarify business or product questions, and help refine them into tractable analyses, evaluation metrics, or mathematical models.
• Apply specialized knowledge to use custom data infrastructure or existing data models, then design and evaluate models to express and solve defined problems, including when limited precedent is available.
• Collect context on information needs, business goals and priorities, organizational considerations, and the existing and upcoming data infrastructure related to the questions you’re addressing.
• Own end-to-end data handling across sources: gather, extract, and compile datasets using tools such as SQL, R, and Python. Re-structure and validate data to ensure quality, and review datasets so they are ready for analysis.

Minimum qualifications

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 5 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, including coding (such as Python, R, SQL) and querying databases or performing statistical analysis, or 3 years of work experience with a PhD.

Preferred qualifications

• 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, including coding (such as Python, R, SQL) and querying databases or performing statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD.

Location: Mountain View, CA (onsite).
Salary range: USD 174,000 to 252,000 per year.
