Department Summary

The Research Integrity and Compliance (RIC) unit within the Division of Research & Innovation is committed to serving, educating, and supporting the UNT research community by ensuring that the Institution and investigators conduct research
in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as university policies and procedures. The RIC unit provides guidance and assistance to researchers in the following areas: Human Subjects and Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Conflict of interest (COI),
Export controls, and Responsible conduct of research (RCR).

Position Overview

The Sr Research Compliance Analyst within the Research Integrity and Compliance unit is responsible for providing administrative support by reviewing and processing submissions for UNT's research compliance programs, specifically Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This position provides initial reviews for submissions and conducting risk assessments for compliance components. Reviews complex applications, protocols, policies, and procedures as they relate to animal research and facilitates and provides guidance throughout the review process to UNT researchers. Plans and prepares for full board IACUC meetings and prepares and distributes post-meeting communications. Monitors and reconciles research projects with funding components, and assists with special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand, analyze and communicate complex issues effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students regarding compliance issues.
  • Deep knowledge of compliance issues with federally funded projects, agency regulations, and federal law to be able to review and provide additional IRB, IACUC and COI requirements from a variety of agencies.
  • Works independently on clear, effective written communication skills; e.g. emails to ask about or convey regulatory requirements.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain excellent relationships with researchers and various offices across the level of the institution.
  • Time management skills including ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines while attending to detail and not sacrificing accuracy.
  • Ability to determine when decisions can be appropriately made and when they must be referred to a higher level to protect institutional integrity.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, website content construction, communication and basic statistical operations.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

  • Experience working in research compliance in higher education.

Job Duties
  • Provides administrative support to the UNT IACUC program with respect to all institutional policies and federal compliance regulations. Reviews IACUC submissions. Generates regulatory compliance pre-review correspondence for researchers.
  • Provides professional service to the IACUC and research community. Develops meeting agenda and prepares supplemental materials. Acts as a resource for IACUC members regarding regulations and UNT policies and procedures regarding animal research. Composes summaries of the IACUC’s technical deliberations and generates meeting minutes.
  • Verifies training and OHS enrollment for IACUC members, researchers, and all protocol personnel. Maintains documentation in accordance with UNT policies and federal regulations.
  • Works and collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments to answer research compliance questions and provide training. Provides guidance and ensures continuity of workflow within the UNT IACUC program.
  • Provides troubleshooting and support for users as needed on the electronic submission system used for compliance protocols. Provides training and education to UNT faculty, staff, and students on compliance programs and electronic systems.
  • Coordinates with IACUC and researchers to complete facility inspections. Conducts post-approval monitoring for approved protocols.
  • Assists with special projects and research compliance reporting requirements and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
