Job summary

ABC News Washington is seeking a Senior Reporter to join our Washington reporting team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience reporting on international affairs, national security and politics, and will write and produce engaging stories for television.

The role is in-office five days a week, with willingness to travel and to work weekends and on short notice, reflecting the fast-paced nature of this newsroom.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years experience reporting/producing in the news industry.
  • Strong editorial and storytelling skills.
  • Strong writing/scripting abilities.
  • Experience covering national security, intelligence issues, and/or politics.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling developing news.
  • Experience booking interviews and working under tight deadlines.
  • Experience producing video content.
  • Field producing experience highly desirable.

Senior Reporter

ABC News Washington is looking for a Senior Reporter to join our Washington reporting team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with excellent reporting and writing skills, fluent in covering international affairs, national security and intelligence, and politics. The position is an in‑office role, five days a week, requiring willingness to travel, work flexible hours including weekends, and travel on short notice.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely across all Washington reporting units.
  • Develop and manage sources for daily story assignments, breaking news events, and long‑term enterprise reporting.
  • Produce news stories and scripts for television production.
  • File breaking news stories in a fast‑paced news environment with editorial judgment.
  • Handle developing news situations and pitch dynamic ideas for all ABC News platforms.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of seven years experience reporting/producing in the news industry.
  • Strong editorial and storytelling skills.

  • Broadcast journalism experience.
  • Significant White House, Congressional, political, and/or investigative reporting experience.

Compensation

The hiring range in Washington, D.C. is $185,500 to $248,800 per year.

Benefits

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on geographic location and candidate experience. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
