Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Research Administrator to independently oversee pre-award proposals, awards and related transactions in a high-volume, complex environment.

Responsibilities include developing, routing and reviewing proposals and contracts, ensuring sponsor and institutional compliance, and coordinating with the PI and Post Award teams across BioSci. This 9‑month remote role supports the division during leaves of absence and may extend.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in research administration with proposal submission and related pre-award action experience preferred.
• Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors.
• Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
• Complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, CFRs and sponsor policies.
• Experience with university purchasing, travel, disbursements, audits.

Responsibilities

• Develop and route proposals, contracts and other agreements for signature.
• Monitor awards and prepare budget revisions and scientific reporting for sponsors.
• Support pre-award activities including Just in Time requests and budget revisions.
• Coordinate with PI and Post Award Fund Manager on award details.
• Maintain shared repositories and track milestones for active proposals.
• Assist with a high volume of annual proposals across multiple sponsors.
• Ensure compliance with sponsor policies and institutional guidelines.
