Job Overview: Macy's Senior Reliability Maintenance Technicians use mechanical, electrical, computer, and software skills to work with smart technologies, such as robots, automated conveyor systems, and computer-integrated distribution equipment. They serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and trainer for equipment inside the fulfillment center, performing predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance to ensure high equipment availability.
Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week; part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. Hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

What You Will Do
- Work hands-on and demonstrate SME-level knowledge on automation and other MHE (Material Handling Equipment) in the building.
- Coach and mentor technicians on shift.
- Support the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and lead the shift in their absence.
- Provide high levels of equipment availability by troubleshooting and prioritizing repairs.
- Install, alter, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic, mechanical, computer, control systems and components in a complex fulfillment/distribution center.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns, communicate with affected parties, and work efficiently to fix issues.
- Support continuous improvement by learning from breakdowns and providing feedback and suggestions through the line manager.
- Combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and control skills to identify equipment malfunctions, perform maintenance/repairs, and return equipment to service. Install, repair, adjust, and test equipment and components to ensure proper function.
- Model safety best practices and monitor others to ensure they follow safe practices; report safety concerns to the Manager or Supervisor.
- Observe and listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on material handling equipment, including daily system inspections of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components; report problems to the Manager or Supervisor.
- Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to monitor, document, and report usage and replacement of parts.
- Perform preventative maintenance on facilities (carpentry, plumbing, and electrical).
- Knowledge of operation and safe storage practices of ARC and MIG welding equipment, including OXY/ACETYLENE and PLASMA welding and cutting.
- May be required to install or recharge batteries for battery-powered material handling equipment.
- Perform electrical tasks such as replacing motors, fuses, and switches.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
Who You Are
- Advanced degree in Mechatronics Technology or at least 4 years of industry experience.
- Multiskilled in electrical and mechanical disciplines with experience in automation, complex MHE environments, and/or robotic operation and maintenance.
- Solid foundational knowledge of PLC-based control systems.
- Experience using CMMS to plan proactive maintenance and record tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to read, understand, and create mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Must be able to read and understand employment policies and safety rules in English and communicate effectively with coworkers and leaders.
- Resourceful self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
- Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects and workload.
- Proven ability to mentor and influence others on the team.
- PC competency and ability to use handheld devices.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Physical Requirements You Will Perform
- This position requires lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.
- Standing for at least two consecutive hours; lifting at least 50 lbs; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
- Reaching above eye level; crouching, kneeling, and stooping.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Frequent use of computers and handheld devices to perform job functions.
Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility
- Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted monthly or semi-monthly, with selection by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed, or within 24 hours of notification in extenuating circumstances.
