Job summary

IPG Photonics in Marlborough, MA, is seeking a Reliability Engineer to ensure long-term performance of ultrafast and UV laser systems. You will lead reliability modeling, testing, failure analysis, and cross-functional improvements across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and field service.

Responsibilities include designing ALT/HALT/HASS tests, predicting MTBF, performing RCA, and driving Design for Reliability to extend lifetime of components and assemblies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 3–8+ years of experience in reliability engineering or laser/optical systems.
• Experience with ultrafast lasers and UV laser systems.
• Strong understanding of laser physics, nonlinear optics, and thermal/mechanical stability.
• Proficient with reliability analysis tools (Weibull, Minitab, JMP, ReliaSoft).

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement reliability plans for ultrafast and UV laser products.
• Perform reliability allocation, prediction, and tracking metrics (MTBF, FIT).
• Design and execute accelerated life tests (ALT, HALT, HASS).
• Conduct environmental testing and stress screening for assemblies.
• Lead root cause analysis for field returns and production failures.
• Collaborate with R&D to improve thermal management and lifetime.
