Job summary

TKDA, an employee-owned, multi-disciplinary engineering firm, seeks a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for industrial facilities and sites nationwide. You will develop site plans, power/signal/lighting plans, equipment layouts, and controls while supporting construction administration.

You will mentor junior staff, manage large multi-discipline projects, assist with proposals and client relations, and travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• PE with 10+ years of progressive electrical design experience for industrial facilities/sites.
• 2+ years managing electrical or multi-discipline projects with service fees > $300,000/year.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SKM Power Tools, and MS Office.
• Experience coordinating design standards across Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, Structural.
• Construction administration experience including observation and inspection.
• Strong communication skills, writing specs, and leading project discussions.
• Ability to travel up to 15% for meetings, consultations, and site inspections.

Responsibilities

• Scope and lead the electrical engineering side of projects, developing site plans, power/signal/lighting plans, equipment layouts, one-lines, industrial controls, assessments, and reports.
• Support construction administration, interpreting plans, observing construction, and confirming conformance to plans, specs, and schedule.
• Mentor less experienced team members and help develop the next generation of engineers.
• Lead engineering and design teams, owning technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects from concept to construction.
• Partner with management on proposal development, client relationships, opportunity tracking, and client presentations.

Our employee-owned, multi-disciplined team of engineering and design professionals is looking for a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in technical design standards for industrial facility and site electrical systems. You'll work alongside Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, and Structural professionals on a wide range of industrial projects across the country.

In this role, you'll scope and lead the electrical engineering side of projects, developing site plans, power/signal/lighting plans, equipment layouts, one-lines, industrial controls, assessments, and reports. You'll also support construction administration, interpreting plans, observing construction, and confirming everything conforms to plans, specs, and schedule. With your experience, you'll also have the chance to mentor less experienced team members and help develop the next generation of engineers on our team.

You’ll lead engineering and design teams, owning the technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects of projects from concept through construction. With our "Seller-Doer" approach, you’ll also partner with electrical group management and the VP of Facilities Engineering Services on proposal development, client relationships, opportunity tracking, and client presentations.

Flexible work arrangement: 3 days in office (Tuesday - Thursday), 2 days WFH (Monday and Friday)

Location: Preferably Bloomington, MN, but a TKDA office in Milwaukee, Downers Grove, Seattle, or Duluth also work.

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
• PE with 10+ years of progressive technical design experience in industrial facility/site power distribution, lighting, and control/signal systems
• 2+ years managing electrical or multi-disciplined projects with service fees exceeding $300,000/year
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SKM Power Tools, and MS Office
• Experience coordinating design standards across disciplines (Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, Structural)
• Construction administration experience, including observation and inspection
• Strong communication skills, comfortable writing specs, preparing reports, and leading project discussions
• Ability to travel up to 15% for meetings, consultations, and site inspections (occasional overnight travel)
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Nice to have:

• Professional registration in multiple states
• Experience responding to RFPs, including fee estimating
• Business development track record, securing new projects/programs
• Interest or experience mentoring less experienced engineers
• Design experience with medium voltage (13.8kV) site power distribution
• Experience with synchronous motor installation, startup, and analysis
• Experience with P&IDs, loop sheets, and instrumentation/control panel work
• Experience configuring or programming PLCs, VFDs, and instrumentation
• Experience with medium voltage switchgear relay setup and configuration
• Experience troubleshooting electrical equipment and power quality issues
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and Revit

The listed salary range reflects base pay for candidates with 10 - 20 years of related experience in Minneapolis. Compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities. Provided salary does not include additional compensation, such as TKDA's ESOP and bonus program. Candidates with greater years of experience or salary expectations are encourage to apply.
