Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Senior Regional Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to lead a regional team of safety professionals, champion WHS policies, and ensure compliance with local, regional, and federal regulations across multiple sites in the United States.

The role emphasizes lean improvements, Kaizen‑driven risk reduction, data‑driven reporting, and collaboration with operations to protect Associates while delivering results for the business.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of increasing responsibility in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibility in people and performance management.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Office within one of the designated region’s sites; willing to relocate if not currently within region.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, to support direct reports and site needs.

Overview

Amazon is seeking a Senior Regional Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to partner with a regional operations team, execute company WHS policies, and ensure compliance with local, regional, and federal regulations. Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, the role leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk, maintaining a safe and healthful working environment for Associates.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a regional team of safety managers and professionals.
  • Create and execute leadership development plans for the team.
  • Assess safety talent and build bench strength for current and future needs.
  • Communicate organizational direction and provide frequent feedback to WHS teams.
  • Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS policies.
  • Measure region and site performance against published WHS requirements, identify deficiencies, and drive corrective action plans.
  • Ensure WHS record‑keeping and data integrity; provide Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business WHS initiatives.
  • Deliver on‑time and quality projects to Operations.
  • Analyze WHS metrics and review incident trends weekly and monthly to justify resource allocation to high‑risk areas.
  • Analyze Global Safety Peer Review results and implement solutions to eliminate exposure risks and prevent injury at other FCs.
  • Audit record‑keeping practices and Global WHS Database entries to ensure compliance with global WHS standards and local regulations.
  • Audit workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure training, auditing, and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
  • Manage and mentor the FC WHS Manager and WHS Associates in assigned FCs.
  • Spend time at fulfillment centers, gathering input from WHS teams, Associates, and leaders on program improvement opportunities.
  • Lead soft‑tissue injury reduction efforts by performing targeted Kaizens with Operations based on identified risks.
  • Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy; audit quality and effectiveness of required WHS training.
  • Review and revise deployed WHS tools to ensure continual improvement.
  • Partner with corporate and other regional field WHS personnel to leverage global WHS and environmental best practices into NA network standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Stand or walk up to 12 hours during shifts.
  • Work in an environment where noise levels vary.
  • Work in an environment subject to variable temperatures and weather.
  • Continuously climb and descend stairs (if site has stairs).
  • Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
Basic Qualifications
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 3 weeks of start.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibility in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibility in people and performance management.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Office within one of the designated region’s sites; willing to relocate if not currently within region.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, to support direct reports and site needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic organization.
  • Interest in long‑term career development through assignments in multiple business units across the nation.
  • Prior experience in a management development training program.
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Demonstrated experience developing others into higher levels of responsibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
