Job summary

The City of Lakewood is seeking an energetic Variable Recreation Older Adult Instructor to lead programs for adults 55 and older, including arts, social games, and entertainment. Part-time, non-benefited position with evenings and weekday hours, supervised by the Program Specialist and Recreation Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience working with adults 55 and older.
• Experience leading or assisting recreation programs/activities.
• Experience leading or assisting groups of varying sizes.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants and staff.
• Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations.
• Ability to interpret and understand instructions, both written and oral.
• Ability to interact with participants in an appropriate manner.
• Ability to give clear verbal direction to groups of various sizes.
• Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.
• Background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead small and large group activities for participants during scheduled times.
• Ensure the health, well-being and safety of all participants and staff.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all areas and facilities used by participants and staff daily.
• Be attentive to the needs of participants, including health, behavioral, and disability-specific needs.
• Support participants at all times in program participation.
• Work as part of a team by supporting others and taking initiative.
